PRA is pleased to offer a Lymphedema Management Program to our Scott Blvd Location.
What is Lymphedema?
Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of protein-rich fluid in body tissues that typically leads to swelling of the arms or legs but can also involve face, trunk, and abdomen.
It is known as a progressive disease that can be managed when properly treated.
Most common causes of Lymphedema
- Cancer Surgery
- Cancer Radiation Therapy
- General Surgery
All of which may cause removal of, or damage to lymph system that ultimately disrupts the normal lymph flow and drainage system.
Treatment for Lymphedema at PRA are classified as “Complete Decongestive Therapy” which is designed to reduce swelling, control discomfort and other associated symptoms.
We may use the following to help you during this process
- Manual Lymph Drainage
- Massage that stimulates normal lymph flow
- Compression Garments
- Lifestyle Changes
- Increased activity level
- Improved Diet
