Marcia Akeson

After crossing paths with a woman who suffered a stroke and had difficulty speaking, Marcia decided to obtain her undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders from Southern Connecticut State University and later a graduate degree in Speech Pathology from Kent State University in Ohio. She worked for 10 years as a speech-language pathologist in New Milford Hospital in Connecticut before relocating to Iowa. She feels that helping individuals recover their speech, language, voice, and/or swallowing abilities after stoke, brain, injury, illness, or head and neck surgery is very rewarding work. She also enjoys facilitating a support group for individuals with acquired communication difficulties and assisting individuals with community re-entry is something that is very important to Marcia.
