February 4th is National Wear Red Day
Did you know that heart disease is the # 1 killer for both men and women? In fact it kills more people than all forms of cancer combined; causing 40% of all deaths, according to the World Health Organization. Our cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index and waistline, are key indicators of our risk for major illness. By knowing these numbers we can take action to reduce our chances of developing heart disease, diabetes and other major illnesses.
Know Your HEALTH NUMBERS!
Recommended Ranges for Optimal Health:
Total Cholesterol: Less than 200 mg/dL
Blood Pressure: 120/80 mmHg
Blood Sugar: Less than 100 mg/dL, HbA1c less than6% (Pre-Diabetic)
Body Mass Index (BMI): Between 18.5-24.9
Waistline: Less than 35” Women, 40” Men

Recommended Amounts for Healthy Adults
Water Intake: 8 glasses/day
Added Sugar: Adults 6-9 tsp (24-36 gms)/day
Sodium: 1500- 2300 mg/day
Caffeine: Less than 400 mg/day
Sleep: 7.5-8 hours/night
Physical Activity: Minimum of 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity exercise. Minimum of 2 days a week of strength training to major muscle groups.
